Pipiwai Trail Difficulty

The Pipiwai Trail difficulty is rated as moderate.

Why?

First, the trail does involve a climb, almost from the get go.

The climb is gradual, and you benefit from stone steps throughout the trail. The steps are relatively low, and didn’t stress our knees the times we hiked.

Second, the trail gets wet and muddy, when it rains, which is often.

Apart from getting your feet and socks wet, the risk is treacherous footing. Go slow, and treat the mud with respect.

Don’t think the exposed roots are any better, they are equally slippery!
