Time Taken to Hike Pipiwai Trail

How long does it take to hike the Pipiwai Trail?

While the hiking time is about 2 1/2 hours, we typically take about 4 hours, so I suggest you allocate half a day to the hike.

The Pipiwai / Palikea Stream bubbles alongside the trail for the initial part of your hike, and you’ll see many pretty Maui birds.

We spotted a beautiful songbird chirping melodiously, and a warbling white eye, with its characteristic white ring around the eye.

Native ohi’a lehua trees and acacia koa trees tower into the forest canopy, and a vertical carpet of ferns and moss form the understory.

We took our time to soak in the natural beauty of the lush surroundings, and take many photos along the way.

See if you can spot freshwater shrimp and endemic gobies in the Pipiwai Stream.
